With over 20 years of experience, Jen brings her passion for sewing to Whistlestop Makers Market, where her classes turn “I could never do that” into “WAIT… I actually made this!” Whether you’ve never touched a machine or just need a confidence boost, Jen meets every student exactly where they are and guides them step-by-step in a relaxed, encouraging environment.
Jen first learned to sew from her mother-in-law and family, but her passion truly took off when she created her first meaningful piece — a toddler quilt for her daughter. That blanket marked the beginning of a tradition: making baby quilts for friends and family, each one filled with care and connection. Over time, her love for sewing came full circle when she began teaching her own daughter, sharing not just the skill, but the joy and pride that comes with creating something by hand.
After years of refining her craft and leading dozens of paint and craft classes, Jen now focuses on teaching sewing with one goal in mind: helping others discover their confidence. She believes the best classes aren’t about perfection — they’re about progress, laughter, and those small breakthrough moments along the way.
Jen creates a welcoming space where mistakes are expected, questions are encouraged, and every student leaves more confident than when they arrived. She knows starting something new can feel intimidating, which is why her classes at Whistlestop Makers Market are designed to help people slow down, try something new, and feel proud of what they make. If you’re looking for more than just a class — if you’re looking for a supportive place to learn and create
— Jen’s class is exactly that. ✂️🧵

For quilters who never or only sewed a few times. Beginner classes focus on foundational sewing and quilting skills such as how to use a sewing machine, cutting fabric, basic piecing, pressing, and simple project assembly. Step-by-step instruction is provided, making it approachable and confidence-building.
For quilters who have completed a few projects or feel comfortable with basic piecing and following simple patterns. Confident Beginner classes introduce slightly more challenging techniques, such as piecing multiple sections, simple layout planning, or using multiple fabrics. These classes help build skills while still providing guidance and support.
For quilters who are confident with basic techniques and ready to expand their skills. Intermediate classes may include more detailed piecing, multiple construction steps, creative layouts, or new techniques. Students should be confident with accurate cutting, consistent seam allowances, and following pattern instructions independently.
For experienced quilters who are comfortable with a wide range of techniques and more complex construction. Advanced classes may involve intricate piecing, precision work, or multi-step projects. Students should feel confident working independently while refining skills and tackling challenging designs.
